Green Moving Companies – Are Your Movers Green?

There is no denying the fact that the public is in general more aware of the green movement. Being “green” really isn’t all that difficult, as one can make even the smallest of changes in their lifestyle in an effort to reduce their environmental footprint. Businesses and large organizations also have the opportunity to make massive changes in how they do business, by being more efficient, offering more earth-friendly products/services, etc.

Moving companies have the opportunity to really benefit from this green movement…if they can change certain aspects of their own business. Better yet, they can start using moving pods instead of moving rental trucks to transport all those millions of pounds of household goods.

Here’s why…

We’ve all been there before: sitting at a stop sign, can’t see a thing because this massive moving truck idles in front of us. Light turns green, but it’s too late. The black smoke and acrid smell of diesel seeps through the vents in our car. We curse, then hold our nose.

Or, we’re cruising down the highway and pull alongside a large rental moving truck, shaking in the wind at speeds over 50 mph. You think to yourself…how far have they come? Where are they moving to? How far do they have to drive that thing? Why does the driver looked so stressed? And then, how bad is the gas mileage that thing actually gets and is it really worth it?

But then it comes time for us to move and yup, you guessed it, we’re the ones in that moving truck, spewing stinky diesel all over our neighborhood and watching the rental costs creep higher and higher every minute we’re on the road. We cursed then, but now we’re just part of the club. Why? Most likely because we think it’s our only choice for moving. But it’s not. Sure we have other options for moving and storage, including hiring a moving company, but now we can associate both local and long distance moving with another service: moving pods companies. Not only will they save you a lot of time, and some money, but they’re far better for the environment than those ‘old-school’ methods of moving.

There are numerous pods moving companies to choose from, depending on which part of the country you live in and whether you are in the city or a more rural area. If in doubt, do a search for moving pods or moving storage and you’ll uncover a few.

There are numerous reasons to use one of these pods moving companies versus a u haul rental truck, including less hassle, saving money, not as much driving, more time to pack…the list goes on and on. But really moving pods are more friendly for the environment. Why? Think about it. A pods moving truck can hold upwards of a half dozen or more of those portable moving containers (depending on the size of them of course.) That’s one truck hauling a lot more household goods than a rental moving truck (or many of them) driving back and forth on numerous trips. Add in the inefficiency of all those separate trucks stopping and going, accelerating from stop lights, compared to one larger truck and you’ll see why a pods moving company may be better for the environment, and yourself.
